Haiti - Politic : President Jovenel Moïse at the scene of the earthquake

A delegation, led by the Head of State, accompanied by Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant and several ministers, including Jean-Marie Reynaldo Brunet (Interior), Marie Greta Roy Clément (Public Health) and Fritz Caillot (Public Works) went to the North West Department to inquire directly about the situation.

On Sunday morning, the Coordination, Information, Analysis and Public Information areas of the National Emergency Operations Center (COUN) were partially activated. The mobilization was effective from the reception of the confirmation of the earthquake. The communication was initiated and maintained with the hierarchy of the National Risk Management System as well as the 10 departmental coordinations.

"I am there, in the areas affected by the earthquake, to provide assistance to the population. The Prime Minister is also on the scene to supervise the rescue teams and coordinate their actions. I congratulate this surge of solidarity and support from citizens.

I am at the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD) in Port-de-Paix, for the damage assessment. The evaluation process of the actions in progress in addition to those to come, continues to better face the reality.

I visited, among others, the police station of Port-de-Paix damaged. I noticed other buildings in the city that are destroyed. I have already asked the Prime Minister to take steps to assist the victims.

I take advantage of my visit to Port-de-Paix to congratulate the police officers of the city who responded to the call of the population, staying true to their motto which is to protect and serve," declared the President from the areas affected by the earthquake on Saturday night.
