"The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of Haiti,"said his spokesman Stéphane Dujarric on Sunday in a press statement "The United Nations stands ready to support the Government of Haiti in the response efforts," stressed the spokesman.

For her part, Helen La Lime, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti and head of the United Nations Mission for the Support of Justice in Haiti (Minujusth) "expresses her deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims earthquake [...] and her solidarity with the Haitian government and people to face it" adding "The UN team is working alongside Haitian authorities and institutions in the framework of national risk management systems and disasters to provide, if necessary, support for needs assessments and timely distribution of disaster assistance."
