Haiti - Social : 91 boat people repatriated yesterday in Cap-Haitien 23/03/2011 11:23:25
The crewmembers from the Coast Guard Cutter Spencer (USCGC Spencer WMEC-905) have repatriated yesterday Tuesday, in Cap-Haitien, 91 Haitian boat-people (19 women, 72 men, including 7 minors), who tried to reach the coasts of Florida.
These 91 Haitian migrants, have been interdicted during two separate incidents last Friday. While conducting a routine patrol in the Caribbean Sea, Spencer crewmembers located a 40-foot sail freighter east of Great Inagua, Bahamas. The spencer crewmembers safely embarked the 90 Haitian migrants without incident. The migrants have received food, water, basic medical care and each Haitian has received a sum of 900 gourds to facilitate their return to their communities.
Always Friday, the crew of the Spencer have been informed of the presence of a 24-foot speedboat in broken down, in north of Great Inagua. The Spencer crew is arrived on scene and found 11 illegal immigrants (1 Haitian and 10 Dominicans).
