Haiti - Politic : Government Accompanying Measures to Assist Workers

Marie Élise Gelin the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, has announced several accompanying measures to improve the living conditions of subcontracting workers, including the minimum wage, despite the last increase is still insufficient https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25766-haiti-flash-all-details-on-new-minimum-wages.html

In addition to subsidizing meals in the country's industrial parks, she mentioned the opening of community stores, the establishment of certain basic services needed in the various industrial parks (dispensaries, police stations, etc..) and the revision of the level of taxable income.

Some of these measures, such as the subsidy of meals are in application to the National Society of Industrial Parks (SONAPI) where the food is subsidized and the price of a dish for the workers is now 40 gourdes, a measure that will be generalized to all the industrial parks on the national territory according to the Minister, who reminds that the objective is to improve the conditions of the workers.

In addition to food, the Minister announces the opening of community stores and grocery stores in the Industrial Parks where the Government will sell certain products at subsidized prices (25%) of rice, peas, cooking oil, ground corn and sugar. At the Metropolitan Park a store of this type has just been built and will be inaugurated soon.

In addition, concerning the review of taxable income, the Government has decided that all workers with an annual income of less than 150,000 gourdes (120,000 in 2017) will not pay tax.
