Haiti - Elections : Publication of final results on April 20, 2011

It will be necessary to wait a bit to see the final results of the second round of elections which was held last March 20. While the rumors spoke of a postponement to Monday, April 18, it is in fact, officially, Wednesday, April 20 that will be released the final election results.

In a statement from the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), signed by its President Gaillot Dorsinvil and released Friday evening, the CEP indicates that "given the high number of challenges to treat, the CEP, is required to defer to the Wednesday, April 20, 2011 the announcement of final election results of March 20, 2011."

Pierre Thibault Junior, Head of communications of CEP clarified that "recounts were held for dozens of seats of Deputy and for 7 seats of Senator" and that more time is needed to verify the ballots.

"The decisions of the Departmental Bureaux for Electoral Complaints and Challenges (BCEDs) of the Artibonite and West, were displayed Wednesday, April 13 and the deadline for appeals to the National Bureau for Electoral Complaints and Challenges (BCEN), for these departments, expires today Saturday, April 16" specifies the statement.

Some testimonies reportes that the tension is prevailing in several parts of the country where the results are disputed.
