Haiti - Health : $15M from Canada to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates
Marie Gréta Roy Clément, the Minister of Public Health accompanied by her Director General, Dr. Lauré Adrien and senior officials of the Ministry officially launched, in Chansolme (North-West), the project "Saj Fanm pou Fanm" financed by Canada up to $15 million over a period of 5 years. This project will be implemented by the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA) in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Midwives and the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, aims to strengthen the profession and practice of Midwives and reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and improve the sexual and reproductive health of women and adolescent girls by strengthening their ability to make informed choices in the exercise of their rights, will be carried out in four departments : North West, Grand Anse, Nippes and Southeast.
This ceremony is part of the World Midwives Day (May 5), celebrated this year under the theme "Midwives Defenders of Women's Rights" was held in the presence of the First Lady Martine Moïse, Evelyne Sainvil, Minister for the Status of Women, André Frenette, Ambassador of Canada to Haiti, UNFPA Representative and UN-Women Representative in Haiti and several other civil, political and judicial.
It aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates by improving the sexual and reproductive health of women and girls in four departments of the country (Grande Anse, the Southeast, the Nippes and the North-West), to thus contribute to the reduction of gender inequalities and the empowerment of women and girls to make informed choices in the exercise of their sexual and reproductive rights.
