Haiti - Strike : Truce at the DGI, tax collection will finally resume

Friday, Fresto François, spokesman for employees strikers of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), on work stoppage since June 4 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27920-haiti-economy-strikes-multiply-in-the-public-service.html announced a truce of 4 weeks and the resumption of services from Monday, June 24 in both Port-au-Prince and other provincial cities.

François Fresto said that the strike was not lifted, but that this truce was a proof of the awareness of the socio-economic situation in the country "There is no longer a gourde in the coffers of the State, it is to allow the State to get up "stressing that the list of 10 claims were maintained including a salary increase of 300% and a debit card of 25,000 gourdes... and that the authorities must meet them for a final settlement of the conflict.

This truce should indeed allow the DGI to collect taxes and bail out part of the coffers of the State, deprived since the beginning of the month of several billion gourdes of tax revenue... and also relieve of many taxpayers deprived of services who have not been able to renew their tax number, pay passport fees or driver's license become invalid due to the strike.
