Haiti - FLASH : Arnel transferred to Port-au-Prince under high protection in a UN helicopter 24/07/2019 11:58:06
Monday Michel-Ange Gédéon, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) reacting on the airs of a radio of the capital following the arrest of Arnel, said that this arrest would allow the advancement of several folders "We need to elucidate several files. There are some who will cause huge scandals. We were waiting for the arrest of Arnel Joseph in order to make public certain files on which we were working [...]" It remains to be seen whether Arnel will speak and what he will reveal during his interrogation at the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ). According to Gédéon, the accomplices who accompanied Arnel to the hospital managed to escape but were actively sought after, adding that an investigation was opened to find out how Arnel was able to visit a hospital more than 250 km from his last known base by escaping all controls. Regarding the distribution of videos on social networks in which Arnel is shown naked, provoking strong reactions from the defenders of the rights of detainees, Gédéon recognizes that the arrest of Arnel caused a moment of euphoria among the police, but that he had never allowed the diffusion of such images that he firmly condemned, pointing out that there were curious civilians with the police, without being able to say who recorded and disseminated these images indicating "an investigation will determine the origin of these images." Senator Jean Renel Senatus, President of the Justice and Security Commission, did not hide his satisfaction following the arrest, but he recommends that the authorities place Arnel under high protection in order to prevent a hidden hand from reaching its destination, to silence him definitively before he delivers valuable information.
