Haiti - 213th Dessalines : Floral Offering of President Moïse under high security
Thursday, because of the demonstrations, the President Moïse had to skip Pont-Rouge and Marchand-Dessalines and to be satisfied, under an imposing device of security, with Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) to deposit a floral wreath, at the foot of the monument of the Father of the Nation, the Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines cowardly murdered 213 years ago, at the Pont Rouge on October 17, 1806.

President Jovenel Moïse was accompanied by his wife Martine, the resigning Prime Minister Jean Michel Lapin, Interior Minister Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, the acting Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) Normil Rameau, and several other members of the cabinet resigning.

"Deposit of a wreath of flowers to the MUPANAH as part of a ceremony of offering and meditation. Through this gesture, we wanted to honor the memory of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the founding Father of the Fatherland and above all to show us worthy of the legacy he has left us," Moïse published on his Twitter account.

During this short ceremony of remembrance to commemorate this sad anniversary https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29027-haiti-social-213th-anniversary-of-the-assassination-of-emperor-jean-jacques-dessalines.html , which lasted less than 15 minutes, the absence of parliamentarians and representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps was very noticed...

Although the National Police of Haiti had deployed to cordon off the Champs de Mars and ensure the serenity of this ceremony, the agents of the General Security Unit of the National Palace had to make use of their weapons, firing in the air to disperse violent demonstrators, who wanted at all costs to disrupt this commemoration.

Before leaving the scene under heavy police escort, the Head of State front the Museum, has tackled again the system he has been fighting since he came to power and which he describes as "a real enemy of the country " declaring "The system has the capacity to regenerate each time. The people must be able to identify their real enemies. The people must identify who killed Dessalines. This system that generates misery, poverty, exclusion, has come to an end and we must work together to prevent it from regenerating..."
