Haiti - Education : Towards the integration of risk management in schools
In order to perpetuate Risk and Disaster Management (GRD) in the education system, UNESCO supports the Department of Training and Development (DFP) of the Ministry of National Education in the preparation of a strategic document which defines in the short, medium and long-term priorities and the development of a training module in DSM for teachers and school directors.

This module is divided into four blocks:

- Basics in risk management;
- Understand and face the risks in Haiti;
- Reduce risks in the school and its environment;
- Train and raise awareness on risk reduction and disasters in schools.

Several Technical Departments actively participated in the development process of this module, notably the Directorate General, the DFP, the Secondary Education Department and the Curriculum and Quality Department.

This inclusive process made it possible not only to adapt the tools developed to the Ministry's expectations, but also to create its own dynamics.

UNESCO undertakes, alongside the Haitian State, to strengthen the capacity of developers of school curricula and education partners to better integrate GRD in formal education. The UNESCO Office in Port-au-Prince is committed to promoting and supporting the development of action plans for the implementation of the comprehensive approach to school safety throughout the national territory.
