Haiti - Education : International Day of Education, speech by Minister Cadet 26/01/2020 09:13:53
Extracts from Minister Cadet's speech : "[...] as the Ministry loudly proclaims it, there is no future for youth without education, there is no future for the country without education. We have the responsibility to defend this right and to guarantee it for the happiness of our children, for the safeguard of our country, of humanity, which passes essentially through education. The pursuit of school activities in Haiti after so many political commotions is an important conquest for this public good, this common heritage of education. But this is the beginning of a long fight, the battle must continue [...] [...] The theme chosen by the United Nations for the celebration of this year reflects well this humanist and collective vision where education plays this central role for the preservation of the interests of the world and of humans. And that is why on this day [...] we reaffirm the importance of education as a fundamental human right and the need to make it a universal heritage which it is important, at all costs, to protect and defend, and promote. A common foundation for all sustainable human development, for the well-being of people with tolerance and good living together, education remains the only renewable resource for humanity capable of promoting the emergence of a fraternal, united humanity pooling possibilities, means, capacities to achieve the objectives of sustainable development. As the Director-General of UNESCO pointed out in her special message today, 'To act for education is to act for Prosperity. Because education is the best investment for the future. It is what makes it possible, in the medium and long term, to reduce poverty and inequality the most, to promote social inclusion.' [...] In this perspective, it is our responsibility to make quality education accessible to all, without any distinction, being a 'sine qua non' condition for learning geared towards making available to the populations of means of its economic, social, cultural and political progress in understanding and respecting the environment and a planet to be protected and preserved for future generations. This is the good fight, this is the real fight ! Still too many children stay out of school for reasons that nothing justifies. Still too many stakeholders in our schools are in deficit of initial and continuous training, thereby impacting too weakly the vigor and the quality of the socio-economic change required by our populations. I invite the national community, bilateral and multilateral partners to stand guard around this common good and together to provide it with the means to open it up to all the children of the country and put them in a position to build skills for the benefit of vulnerable communities struggling with poverty, inequality, climate change, land degradation, water contamination and conflicts of all kinds [...]" HL/ HaitiLibre
