The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince is suspending interviews for immigrant and non-immigrant visas. We will resume service as soon as possible, but we are currently unable to announce a recovery date. The Dominican Republic declares a state of emergency Tuesday evening in a speech to the Nation, Dominican President Danilo Medina announced that this Wednesday, March 18, will be submitted to Congress the declaration of national state of emergency, to close the country's borders by land, sea and air, for the 15 next days "Commercial activities are suspended for the same period, with the exception of those dedicated to basic activities for the population.
