Haiti - Climate : Black Monday in Port-au-Prince 07/06/2011 10:00:58
Houses invaded by water or destroyed, neighborhoods flooded, landslides, streets turned into torrents, car overturned, refugees on rooftops, camps under the mud... The assessment of torrential rains that fell last night in Port-au-Prince, is heavy. The President Martelly visited the affected areas to distribute aid to the inhabitants "I was in the streets during the rain, and I got home, put my boots on, and I'm back in the streets to help people in difficulties." Yolaine Suréna of the Directorate of Civil Protection reports has reported many casualties and extensive material damage ""We counted at least 7 dead in Port-au-Prince, where several houses were destroyed in neighborhoods completely inundated" [3 to Petion-ville, 2 to Delmas and 2 children to Christ-roi following the collapse of a house]. Several wounded were transported to Medical Center Doctors Without Borders. "Some families have taken refuge on the roofs of houses flooded by the waters, landslides have been reported in several neighborhoods", has added Yolaine Surena before this heavy preliminary toll. This morning after a night of nightmares, Port-au-Prince offers a picture of desolation, the inhabitants in the mud trying to find some goods recoverable ...
