Haiti - Storm Laura : The Government is helping the victims (latest report)
The first response actions carried out by the Government during the 72 hours following the passage of tropical storm Laura over Haiti, made it possible to support 800 affected families in Cité Soleil, Gressier and Tabarre West), but also in Anse-in-Pitres and Cayes-Jacmel (South-East). These families received mattresses, materials for repairing their homes (metal sheets, wood, nails), as well as food kits and hot meals.

The Ministry of the Interior and the Economic and Social Assistance Fund are continuing these operations, particularly in the West and South-East, the two departments most affected by the storm.

At the same time, Civil Protection volunteers continue to clear and clean public spaces, including streets blocked by trees that fell during the storm.

Latest Report :
Tropical storm Laura, which affected several departments in the country, on August 23 left 31 dead, 8 missing and 8 injured. A total of 2,320 houses were damaged, 6,272 flooded and 243 others destroyed.

On Wednesday a reconnaissance flight, coordinated by the National Emergency Operations Center, revealed the extent of the damage in the West and South-East. In the field, in-depth assessments, primarily in the agricultural sector, are continuing in these two departments but also in the South, with the support of several national and international partners.

The Directorate General of Civil Protection renews its sympathies to the families affected by storm Laura and takes the opportunity to remind the population of the need to maintain caution, especially since we are only in the middle of the hurricane season.
