Haiti - Elections : Feminist organizations oppose the CEP of the Executive
In a note dated September 28, nearly ten feminist organizations protested against the presidential decree of September 17 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-31835-haiti-flash-appointment-of-cep-members-and-mandate.html "illegally appointing a new Provisional Electoral Council (CEP)" [composed of 5 women and 4 men], one of whose mandate is to organize a referendum in order to endow the country of a new constitution. These feminist activists believe that this is a "political act that confirms the authoritarian inclinations of President Jovenel Moïse."

These organizations recall that an "autocratic power is antinomic (contrary) with the ideals of feminism" and that consequently "they can in no case be involved in a process which violates and puts on hold the Constitution, of a project likely to undermine democratic gains and threaten the existence of social movements and the feminist movement. Moreover, they stick to their analysis that the conditions for democratic elections are not in place today.

These feminist organizations reiterate that they are "not involved in the CEP fabricated by the Executive" and they call on democratic institutions and organizations "to block any project that would sink the country back into dictatorship. "Adding" Feminists firmly believe in the need for a Haitian and lasting solution to the socio-political crisis and structural inequalities which exclude the majority of populations, in particular women [...] "
