On the occasion of the St. Peter and Paul, Pope Benedict XVI, will hand over on Wednesday morning June 29, during a Mass in the St. Peter's Basilica - rome, the pallium to 40 metropolitan archbishops appointed in the year, whose Mgr Guire Poulard the new archbishop of Port-au-Prince inducted on March 26, 2011 to replace Mgr Joseph Serge Miot, who died in the earthquake of January 2010.
The pallium is a white woolen scarf decorated with six black crosses, specific to the metropolitan archbishops and a symbol of their relationship with the Chair of Saint Peter. It is woven with wool taken from two lambs, each specially blessed by the pope each January 21 at the time of St. Agnes.
After their fabrication completed, the palliums are placed until they surrender in a bronze urn, donation of Benedict XVI, placed in a niche under the altar of "Peter's confession," as close to the tomb of the apostle.
