Haiti - Politic : Senator Lambert, President of the Senate apologizes
Sunday February 7 deadline, Senator Joseph Lambert, President of the Upper House, notes in a note that no consensual solution, which could have taken the country out of the crisis, was found within the deadline on the part of the Senators "We consulted and we could not reach a conclusion which settles the controversy of interpretations."

Note from Senator Joseph Lambert :

"[...] Very bad news punctuated this day with the arrests that occurred in the highest instance of the judiciary and the high command of the National Police https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32966-haiti-flash-coup-foiled-all-official-details.html

The next few days will obviously be dark and the chaos I have so denounced is imminent.

We have a duty today to look at Haiti and the Haitian people, before and above all other considerations.

For more than forty-eight hours, my fellow Senators have been hard at work and never cease to seek a common position, but have not succeeded in harmonizing points of view, so much they embarrass themselves in divergent interpretations of the ambiguity which separates Articles 134-1 and 134-2.

The situation is too delicate and the expectations too pressing. The Senate codepositor of national sovereignty, in these difficult times, should have an appropriate and useful position.

The reflections deserve to be enriched. Senators must come back to it by measuring the dangers that threaten the country and taking into account the measurement of the stakes without deviating too much from the sense of history and popular expectations.

As a Senator and a public figure, I have my personal position. I maintain it and profess it until that precise moment. It lies in the scrupulous respect of the Constitution and precedents in the application of certain articles, in particular article 134-2.

I regret not having been able to find a common position on the part of the Senators. We consulted and we were not able to reach a conclusion that settles the controversy of interpretations.

Also, I am obliged to apologize to the population because I cannot give them an unfinished word in this period of acceleration of history with the latest events which took place in the fear of outbreaks and disarray of the political class.

As for me, I remain standing at the bedside of my sick country. I keep talking to each other until the last attempt to break Haiti out of the impasse."
