Haiti - USA : Two Important Laws for Haitians, awaiting ratification by the US Senate

The Embassy of Haiti in Washington informs that on March 18, 2021, the United State House of Representatives passed two immigration legislation that would impact Haitian national if passed by the Senate and signed into law.

Under, H.R.6, Dream and Promise Act of 2021, millions of Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivai (DACA) recipients and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients, and in particular more than fifty-thousand Haitian nationals who are Temporary Protective Status (TPS) recipients, may immediately apply for a green card and ultimately, citizenship.

The Department of Homeland curity (DHS) has extended TPS status for recipients from the Republic of Haiti until October 4 2021.

The House also passed H.R.1603, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021, which would provide a pathway to permanent legal residency to undocumented agricultural workers and their families living in the United States and filling a critical economic need.

The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti acknowledges the efforts of leading human rights group which have fought relentlessly for the passage of H.R 6. We will continue to work with the legislative branch and the U.S. Govemment to promote the interests of Haitian nationals living both in the United States and in the homeland.
