Haiti - Politic : A CEP almost deserted, prepares the next elections...
Pierre-Louis Opont, the Director General of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) "works without idle" with Me. Laurette Croyance, member of the council together with a Commission of Jurists on the proposal of a new electoral law to be presented to the Parliament, for the next elections which should be held, in principle this fall.

The Director General indicated that Mr Dorsinvil Gaillot, President of CEP, Jean Thélève Pierre Toussaint the Vice President (Designated by the Federation of CASEC / ASEC), Mr. Ribel Pierre, member of the council (Designated by the National Council of the Democratic Centre, CONACED) and Me. Laurette Croyance, member of the council (Designated by the Episcopal Church) are present in Haiti "other advisers are not in Haiti for health reasons..." explained Pierre-Louis Opont.

Among the members present in Haiti, only Me. Laurette Croyance is in the office every day to complete the new electoral law with the Director General "...Today we are in preparation for new elections which are supposed to take place by the end of the year. We have no control over the date, because the electoral law, wants that the President of the Republic convenes the people to vote. So we have no date, but we know that there must be elections to renew one third of the Senate, replace the magistrates and then for the elections of the territorial collectivities, that is why the CEP prepares them, they are supposed to take place by the end of the year or when it will be decided by the competent authorities..." explained Pierre-Louis Opont.

Concerning the absence of Gaillot Dorsinvil, the Director General of the the CEP has tried to explain his absence by reasons of judicial different with the Commissioner of the Government, explaining that the President of the CEP "did not come to his office [for two days], that he is not here today but perhaps that he will be there this afternoon or tomorrow..."
