The Government of Mexico as announced last weekend https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34849-haiti-mexico-haiti-will-open-consulates-in-the-states-of-chiapas-and-tabasco.html has resumed its Voluntary Return Flights Program in agreement with the Haitian Government.

On Wednesday a first flight of 70 people (41 men, 16 women and 13 minors) was transferred from Villahermosa, in the south-east of the country, to Port-au-Prince, informed the National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico in a press release.

"This program is part of the agreements [...] between the representatives of the Government of Mexico and Haiti, in order to meet the needs of people of Haitian origin, located on the national territory," said the INM.

Marcelo Ebrard, Mexican Foreign Minister said Tuesday, September 28, that the Mexican Commission for Refugees is processing around 13,000 asylum applications from Haitian citizens. He stressed that many Haitians who have arrived in Mexico cannot apply for refugee status because they have already obtained it in other countries.

Recall that last week, several thousand migrants, mostly from Haiti, were dislodged from a border camp between the cities of Del Río, in Texas, and Ciudad Acuña, in Mexico. In total, nearly 30,000 migrants have arrived at the Mexican-American border since September 9, 2021. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34828-haiti-flash-no-more-migrants-under-the-del-rio-bridge.html

In addition, in the south of the country, nearly 19,000 other migrants, mainly Haitian, but also Cubans, Venezuelans and Africans are massing at the Colombo-Panamanian border in order to continue their journey to the North (USA) in search of a better life. They waits in small groups for the very expensive guides, to cross the dangerous "Darien Gap" an area of marshes and hostile forests of about 8,000 km2 where 3 groups of rebels clash...
