Carissa Etienne, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the body in charge of regional public health policies, detailing the pandemic situation during her weekly virtual press conference from Washington, said "PAHO is doing everything in its power to speed up vaccination in the region."

PAHO has so far delivered some 72 million vaccines throughout the region, including 1.6 million this week. 55% of the population of Latin America and the Caribbean is already fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and although there are still 20 countries that have not yet reached 40% vaccination (target set by the World Organization Health by the end of 2021), Etienne estimates that they will reach the target by the end of the month with the exception of 6 countries.

For the Caribbean, these are : Jamaica (38%), Saint Lucia (26%), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (21%) and Haiti (0.59%) and for Latin America Guatemala (24%) and Nicaragua (38%)

Note that the very low number of Covid-19 screening tests in Haiti 146,922 in total (as of December 7, 2021) since March 19, 2020, does not statistically make it possible to make a representative estimate of the situation in the country, which results in a low number of daily confirmed cases, a largely underestimated assessment, especially as the measures to avoid the spread of the corronavirus (mask, distance, hand washing and vaccination) are totally neglected by the population.
