Contrary to the erroneous information circulating in the Dominican press, the Dominican Ministry of Defense clarified that the construction works of the first stage of the intelligent border fence between the Dominican Republic and Haiti were not paralyzed.

The Ministry informs that the first pouring of concrete (foundation) of the first phase (54.0 km) is in progress and has not been stopped and is taking place in accordance with the schedule explaining in a note

"One of the most important tasks for the development of the works is the topographic technical survey, which has been in progress since the first day and has not had a break and is progressing quickly, it is estimated that it will be concluded in the first days of April, well ahead of schedule" pointing out that 80% of this activity has been completed, without which it is impossible to start other stages of the construction of the border smart fence. »

Remember that the physical fence of 160 km in total will consist of a reinforced concrete wall and a metal structure 3.90 meters high which will be crowned by an accordion of barbed wire with sharp blades. It will have 170 surveillance towers and checkpoints, in addition to some 71 controlled access gates. The fence will be double in the most critical areas

It should be added that this fence, in addition to the presence of soldiers, will have a state-of-the-art surveillance system, among other devices: radar, motion detectors, high-definition cameras with night vision and infrared, in addition to a squadron of surveillance drones.

The Ministry estimates that by the end of the first half of this year, the technological component of the fence in its entirety will be put out to tender.

"In the second half of the year, the second phase of 110 km will be put out to tender, the construction of which will begin as soon as the first phase is completed."
