Haiti - Environment : Flood warning for all ten departments of the country

During a press conference, this Thursday, Alta Jean-Baptiste, the Director of the Haitian Civil Protection has confirmed that Irene has completely moved away from the north coast of Haiti. "Showers are still possible due to the moist and unstable air in the area. They could cause major flooding. The structures of civil protection are on the ground" she said, inciting the population of the ten departments of the country to be vigilant.

Ronald Semelfort, Director of the National Meteorological Centre (CNM), said meanwhile that the orange alert is lifted on Haiti, however, the CNM is launching a flood warning for all ten departments of the country.

Ms. Jean-Baptiste also states that "the interdepartmental road connecting Gros-Morne to Saint-Louis du Nord is blocked because of the rains of this recent days. What has disrupted the patronal feast of Saint-Louis du Nord. Public Works will continue to intervene to restore circulation at the level of the road cut or blocked. She also took the opportunity to thank all those who helped in the emergency management during the passage of Irene, including the media. Once again, the latter have ensured the correct relaying of the messages of the Civil Protection to the population.
