Friday, June 10, 2022 as part of the 9th Summit of the Americas in plenary session, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry spoke at the podium. In particular, he spoke bluntly about the Haitian crisis, the indiscriminate violence of gangs, "the massive flight of young people and executives" to other countries, stressing "[...] our democratic institutions have collapsed [...] the future looks dark..."

Excerpts from Prime Minister Henry’s speech :
"[...] I continue tirelessly to speak to my compatriots in an attempt to broaden the consensus resulting from a Political Agreement between antagonistic political forces and sectors of civil society, by rallying more social groups around a plan. Designed to restore the country's institutions to normal functioning and to restore power to elected officials freely chosen by the Haitian people in the framework of free and transparent elections [...]

[...] I believe that the emphasis must be placed in particular on the search for concrete and lasting solutions to the problems that push migrants from their homes.

In Haiti, these problems are called : poverty, unemployment, lack of opportunities for young people, inequalities, insecurity and political instability.

My country, like others in the region, needs massive investment that will create stable jobs and must offer our youth and candidates for illegal immigration opportunities and reasons to hope for a future. better [...]

[...] I believe that it is in our interests in this hemisphere to do everything to keep our promises, and that together we can indeed build a sustainable, resilient and equitable future."
