Haiti - Social : Summer camps at the initiative of the Ministry of Education

In the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, the Ministry of National Education and COSAFH (Comedy Without Borders of Haiti) are preparing to inaugurate, in the course of next week, a Summer Camp which will be hosted, initially, at the Jean Marie Vincent high school in Tabarre, then in other school sites...

"This camps will give a few hundred students from grades 9 to secondary 4 the opportunity to meet up for a month in an appropriate setting where they can have healthy fun, practice intensively cultural, artistic and literary practices while highlighting their talent and their sense of creativity." The program revolves around three series of activities.

  • The first includes so-called training activities: artistic creation workshop (theatre, dance, crafts, etc...), literary creation workshop (book club, writing club, etc...)

  • The second series includes entertainment activities : brain games (chess, monopoly, checkers, etc...), traditional games (ossicles/pinches, musical chairs, solidarity, hangman, etc...) and racing games (sack race, tug of war, hopscotch, crime lagot, etc...)

  • The third series of activities will be fueled, at the end of each week, by mini-shows and mini-exhibitions; moments during which young people can highlight what they have already learned.

In addition to these categorized activities, the Ministry and COSAPH plan to organize debate clubs, karate, football and basketball tournaments and a "Miss of Knowledge" contest, not to mention Book Day, Haitian Gastronomy Day, Citizen Day and workshops on entrepreneurship among others...

Nesmy Manigat The Minister of National Education encouraged the other Departmental Directorates of Education to develop partnerships with local cultural operators, which could facilitate the holding of similar activities in their jurisdiction.
