Haiti - Education : Donation of US$11.8M to support the education sector
The Global Fund for Education in Emergencies "Education Cannot Wait", in support of the Haitian education sector, donated $11.8 million to Haiti for the implementation of a multi-year resilience program.

This fund will be used to finance comprehensive and quality education for more than 20,000 girls and boys in 35 municipalities, including psychosocial support and hot meals provided at school. This brings the total investment by "Education Cannot Wait" in the field of education to $13.3 million.

"Education Cannot Wait" had, in fact, provided initial support of $1.5 million to Haiti, which had notably enabled the acquisition of school supplies and textbooks for 1,400 students, the construction of 30 classrooms, 14 hand-washing stations as well as the provision of school equipment such as benches, desks, blackboards, chairs and hygiene kits. In addition, 100 teachers and school principals had been trained in psychosocial support, prevention of gender-based violence, protection against sexual exploitation and abuse and the Code of conduct against violence in schools. A total of 5,000 children and adolescents affected by the earthquake that struck the Great South benefited from psychosocial support activities.

This new multi-year resilience program takes up the main priorities of the Ministry's Ten-Year Education and Training Plan 2020-2030. The three-year program will be implemented by UNICEF, the World Food Program (WFP) and local partners, under the coordination of the Ministry of Education. It will take into account issues of equality, gender and disability inclusion and will strengthen the capacity of the national education system to plan, monitor, coordinate, finance and deliver quality comprehensive education that meets the needs of children. and adolescents affected by crises.

For Bruno Maes, the UNICEF representative in Haiti, this donation from "Education Cannot Wait" will allow the most vulnerable children, including those living with disabilities, to have the opportunity to receive a quality education allowing them to pursue and develop. achieve their dream.

For his part, the Minister Manigat thanked, on behalf of the Ministry and the children of Haiti, "Cannot Wait Education" for this funding aimed at strengthening the Haitian education system in vulnerable areas.
