Haiti - Justice : Former Prime Minister Céant, sanctioned by Canada organizes his defense 02/12/2022 08:59:27 The Gélinas, Leclerc, Teolis law firm in Montreal, (QC. Canada) mandated by Céant sent correspondence last week to Acting Minister of Justice Émmelie Prophète Milcé, to the Public Protector Renan Hédouville and to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly. Letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada : "Honourable Mélanie Joly Minister of Foreign Affairs Communal room Ottawa, Ontario K1A OA6 Subject : Jean Henry CÉANT Registration on the list established in the Regulation respecting economic measures specials targeting Haiti Madam Minister, We have been mandated by Mr. Jean-Henry Céant to send you this correspondence. On November 17, you recommended to the Governor in Council that our client's name be placed on the list appearing in the schedule to the Special Economic Measures (Haiti) Regulations (hereinafter, the 'Regulations'). https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38184-haiti-flash-canada-sanctions-martelly-lamothe-and-ceant.html Our client denies any allegation against him that could have led to your recommendation. It is in this context and in accordance with Article 8 of the Rules that we urge you to remove his name from the said list, and this without delay. In addition, we urge you to send us without delay your reasons in support of your recommendation to the Governor in Council. We believe that your recommendation may have been made on the basis of reports and/or findings by third parties, the veracity and reliability of which must be carefully assessed in the current social context in Haiti. We believe it is appropriate to hold a meeting with you quickly for this purpose. We will make ourselves available given the urgency of the matter." In addition, the Notary Céant whose bank accounts have been blocked in Haiti, wrote to Michel Patrick Boivert the Minister of Economy and Finance and Jean Baden Dubois the Governor of the Central Bank in order to demand from the Association Professional Banking (APB) the legal document that empowers banking institutions to execute such provisions.
