Haiti - Environment : 110 quakes in February 2023 18/03/2023 10:29:58 Among the earthquakes to highlight, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake off Bombardopolis (district of Môle Saint-Nicolas) on February 16 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38862-haiti-flash-strong-earthquake-off-bombardopolis.html and another of magnitude 4.3 off Marigot (South Dept.) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38909-haiti-flash-earthquake-in-the-south-felt-as-far-as-port-au-prince.html Of the 110 earthquakes recorded, 97 (88.1%) had a magnitude less than or equal to 3 and 59 (53.64%) occurred at a depth less than or equal to 10 km. 48 earthquakes (43.64%) occurred at sea, including 14 along the North-Grand'Anse-Nippes fault. In the three departments most affected by the earthquake of August 14, 2021 (Nippes, Grand'Anse and Sud) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes-updated-10am.html , seismic activities are largely due to aftershocks and new earthquakes that followed, from August 14, 2021 to February 28, 2023. During this period Nippes recorded 1.113 earthquakes, Grand'Anse 1.145 and Sud 395. It should however be noted that among the 24 earthquakes (21.8%) recorded in Grand'Anse during the month of February, several had their epicenter located at sea north of Jérémie, along the Nord-Grand'Anse-Nippes fault zone. There was an increase in earthquakes that occurred in February in Nippes and the South, while the number has largely decreased in Grand'Anse (which nevertheless remains the most shaken department of the territory in February).
