Haiti - Massacre at Source Matelas : The OPC does not deplore, it accuses
The Office for the Protection of Citizens (OPC), a National Institution for the protection and promotion of human rights, accredited (status A) with the UN Human Rights Council, "denounces with the greatest firmness the recent tragic, murderous, criminal, barbaric events with political and economic overtones that occurred in the Source Matelas locality, commune of Cabaret at the northern entrance to the capital. During the week of April 17 to 22, 2023 at least a hundred people were murdered, 29 women and girls were victims of gang rapes and hundreds of houses were burned down https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39405-haiti-flash-intensification-of-armed-attacks-several-hundred-dead-report.html

"No cause, no motive, even on the occasion of the most barbaric wars, can justify the apocalyptic scenes in which we live today in our daily life of horrors [...] all these crimes are committed by individuals without state of mind, bandits and notorious criminals known to all, armed by mafia of the political and economic sectors who are waging a dirty war of expansion and protection of territory [...] In the meantime, cases of kidnapping are multiply in the capital as in the provinces."

1,647 criminal acts (homicides, rapes, kidnappings and lynchings) were recorded during the first quarter of 2023 against 692 for the same period in 2022, Maria Isabel Salvador told the UN Security Council https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39397-haiti-un-maria-isabel-salvador-stresses-the-urgency-of-the-deployment-of-a-specialized-international-force.html

"When State structures affected by this institutionalized terror display their incapacity, their contempt in the face of violations of all the rights of citizens. The OPC wonders : who is in charge ?

The OPC accuses the irresponsibility of those who are paid to administer the State, ensuring the protection of all citizens in the exercise of their full rights to enjoy the goods and services of their country.

NO to the transformation of our trails into the highway of Croix, Haiti is a country like the others.

Let it stop, let this barbarism stop, let this complicity stop, let all bandits be neutralized and disarmed for the return of tranquility, peace and republican order in our dear Haiti.

The OPC, does not lament, it accuses and asks : Who is in charge ?"
