Haiti - Mexico: In Reynosa, 15,000 Haitians are preparing for a rush to the USA
It is estimated that at least 15,000 immigrants, mostly Haitians, have crowded into Reynosa, a town in northern Mexico on the Rio Grande across from McAllen, Texas.

They are waiting on May 11 at 11:59 p.m. for the end of the application of "Title 42", a health ordinance which allows the deportation of candidates for immigration, including potential asylum seekers, and to see what the new policy of Biden which will take effect on May 11, 2023 at midnight https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39437-haiti-flash-new-radical-us-measures-to-reduce-illegal-migration-at-the-border.html

Reynosa's 15,000 Haitians are a good indicator of whether the Biden administration's new strategy will hold them back like Title 42 did, or cause a rush to the U.S. southern border that will overwhelm preparations for managing the borders in cities and towns across the country and which will pose the question of political accountability for Democrats contemplating the 2024 election.

Alejandro Mayorkas, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, recently expressed confidence that after a "perhaps chaotic" initial rush, the new policies will begin to clear the border of any accumulation of migrants while planes and buses will take migrants in or out of the country.

"Let me be clear: Our border is not open and will not be open after May 11," Mayorkas told reporters at a press conference last week on the rollout of the coming strategy.

Mayorkas hopes these measures will funnel all border applicants into new, expanded "legal pathways" south of the border where U.S. Customs will grant more humanitarian permits to skilled immigrants through a phone app reservation system called CBP-One. https://www.haitilibre.com/article-39437-haiti-flash-new-radical-american-measures-to-reduce-illegal-migration-at-the-border.html

"At the same time, we are imposing penalties on people who do not use legal channels" by applying a fast-track version of the long-standing "Title 8 fast-track removal" system. "All border crossers to streamlined asylum denials, then quick deportations to home countries, a five-year ban on reentry, and prosecution if they keep crossing afterward."

However, skeptics who have analyzed the new Biden plan see loopholes that immigrants should quickly discover as a quick passage straight to America.

"There will be a mass entry of Haitians into the United States because the only real restriction on them was Title 42," said former immigration judge Andrew R. Arthur. "Expedited removal doesn’t work. It’s not effective."

The answer in a few days...
