Haiti - FLASH Immigration : Nearly 27,000 Haitians expelled from DR in June
Since the establishment of Decree 668-22 which provides, among other things, for the expulsion from Dominican territory of all foreigners in an irregular migratory situation, the number of expulsions of Haitians from neighboring territory has reached record levels.

The statistics for the first 6 months of this year already exceed the total number of evictions recorded for the year 2022 in its entirety. This increase in deportations raises serious concerns about respect for the fundamental rights of Haitian migrants on the other side of the border, underlines the Support Group for Returnees and Refugees (GARR) in its June 2023 report.

"The repeated appeals of the United Nations High Commissioner and human rights organizations in favor of Haitian migrants are rejected out of hand by the Dominican authorities. Legitimate demands for protection and respect for their fundamental rights continue to be ignored. This unacceptable reality creates a critical situation for Haitian migrants, who face continuous violations of their rights."

The report highlights the urgency of a coordinated and effective response to end violations of the rights of Haitian migrants and ensure their well-being in an atmosphere of mutual respect and solidarity.

GARR calls on all parties concerned, the Haitian and Dominican governments, the international community and civil society organizations, to unite their efforts in order to put an end to this humanitarian crisis and to work together to build a better future. for Haitian migrants.
