Tuesday October 10, 2023, former Senator Joseph Joel John (52 years old) made an about-face. After pleading not guilty in October 2022, he pleaded guilty in United States federal court in Miami to participating in a conspiracy to kidnap or kill a person outside the United States. The former Senator admitted to FBI agents that he provided vehicles and other material resources, knowing that this material support would be used to prepare a plot to kidnap or kill the President of Haiti, assassinated July 7, 2021 in his residence https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html A summary of the facts from the Office of the Prosecutor, signed by the defendant, indicates that he "attended several meetings with his co-conspirators to discuss the operation, both in the Southern District of Florida and in Haiti." Furthermore, he admitted before the court to having participated in a meeting at the home of Rodolphe Jaar with other members of the plot on July 6, 2021, the day before the attack followed by the assassination of the Haitian Head of State according to the agreement to "plead guilty" that he signed with the American prosecutor’s office. On the night of the assassination, he was in communication with several prime suspects. John is the third person indicted in the United States in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse; the other two are former Colombian soldier Mario Antonio Palacios (sentence expected) and Haitian-Chilean businessman Rodolphe Jaar (sentenced to life). https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39685-haiti-flash-rodolphe-jaar-sentenced-to-life-imprisonment-in-the-usa-in-the-assassination-of-president-moise.html ). The former senator could face a life sentence when he delivers his verdict on December 19 before District Judge Jose Martinez, but as he cooperates with federal prosecutors, he hopes for a sentence less heavy.
