Haiti - Politics: Biden and Abinader in harmony on the Haitian crisis

On Thursday, United States President Joe Biden and his Dominican Republic counterpart, Luis Abinader, demonstrated harmony during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House focused on the crisis in Haiti and the strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.

Biden spoke of the crisis in Haiti which shares the same island with the Dominican Republic and the upcoming deployment for one year (extendable) of a multinational force to assist the Haitian police, a request from the Haitian Government https://www.haitilibre. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37831-haiti-flash-towards-a-foreign-armed-intervention-in-haiti-to-eliminate-gangs.html

The US President expressed his desire to continue supporting, alongside Abinader, the Kenyan-led multinational force and thanked Abinader "Thank you, Mr. President, for your leadership, for your initiative in the region and finally for working together on the historic humanitarian security situation in Haiti."

The Dominican leader said he supported international efforts aimed at stabilizing Haiti but reiterated that his country had already contributed significantly to improving the situation in Haiti.

Finally, the two Presidents reaffirmed that relations between the two nations are going through one of their best moments and underlined their desire to strengthen their economic relations one of the central subjects of this meeting, which then continued behind closed doors, on the eve of the first summit of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas (APEP) launched by Biden.

Besides the economic aspect, Abinader highlighted the close relations between the people of the two nations, with more than two million Dominicans residing in the United States, representing the largest diaspora outside the Dominican Republic. "The Dominican people are your friend. The Dominican people are your ally. The Dominican people are your partners."

For his part, Biden mentioned that the friendship between the United States and the Dominican Republic "runs deep" and spans generations, while reaffirming that this relationship "is stronger than ever."
