Haiti - Border Incident : The Chancellery of Haiti calls for calm and serenity

After the incident which occurred on Tuesday November 7, 2023 at the border at Ouanaminthe between a group of "excited" Haitians and Dominican soldiers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40919-haiti-flash-high-tension-a-group-of-haitians-confront-the-dominican-soldiers-in-ouanaminthe-video.html , Haitian Chancellor Jean Victor Géneus and his Dominican counterpart Roberto Alavarez Gil met and promised to work together to calm tensions in order to avoid any escalation, indicated the Haitian chancellery in a press release

Text of the Release from the Chancellery of Haiti :

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs informs that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Jean Victor GENEUS, spoke with his Dominican counterpart, His Excellency Mr. Roberto ALVAREZ, following the events of Tuesday November 7, 2023 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40919-haiti-flash-high-tension-a-group-of-haitians-confront-the-dominican-soldiers-in-ouanaminthe-video.html along of the Haitian-Dominican border at Ouanaminthe, during which Dominican soldiers, supported by armored vehicles and a helicopter, according to observers, violated Haitian territory, apparently in reaction to what they consider to be a Haitian incursion on their territory.

Faced with this situation which has generated great tension in the area and discontent among the population, the two Chancellors agreed to work to calm tensions, in order to avoid any escalation, while awaiting a satisfactory solution in accordance with international law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs reiterates the Government's desire to continue dialogue and negotiation with the Dominican party and takes the opportunity to appeal for calm and serenity."
