Haiti - Security : A first group of 300 Kenyan police officers in Haiti in February 2024
Last week, the Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), at the head of a delegation composed of senior executives from the Ministry of Justice and members of the High Command, hhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41202-haiti-kenya-the-commander-of-the-pnh-on-an-official-visit-to-nairobi.html visited Nairobi, in the company of the Kenyan Police Chief and his deputy, the Kenya Police Service Tactical Command Center. During his stay in Nairobi, he also met his counterpart, the Director General of the Kenyan Police and his deputy, the Inspector General in charge of Administrative Police, to discuss technical details related to the deployment of the Multinational Support Mission to Safety (MMAS).

Following a recent meeting between Haitian and Kenyan authorities to discuss relevant aspects concerning the deployment of the MMAS, local media reported that despite the court decision temporarily blocking the deployment of the mission, around 300 Kenyan police officers are expected to arrive in Haiti in less than two months.

Let's recall that the Supreme Court of Kenya issued a protective order temporarily preventing the Kenyan Government from deploying the country's security forces in any other country while it examined a complaint filed by opponent Ekuru Aukot, a former defeated presidential candidate. and Leader of the Third Way Alliance party https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40701-haiti-politic-the-high-court-of-kenya-suspends-for-2-weeks-the-deployment-of-the-mission-in-haiti.html The latter challenges the decision to lead a multinational force to combat gang violence in Haiti, following a United Nations Security Council resolution affirming that the law authorizing the President to do so doing so was contrary to the articles of the Constitution.

Although the Kenyan Parliament approved this deployment a few weeks after the court decision https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40994-haiti-flash-the-kenyan-parliament-approves-the-sending-of-1-000-police-officers-to-support-the-pnh-but.html the Supreme Court after hearing the arguments of representatives of the Government and the opponent Ekuru Aukot decided to extend the orders blocking the deployment of the MMAS in Haiti and declared that it would issue its decision on January 26, 2024.
