Message from Lesly Condé : "Dear compatriots and friends everywhere, Here we are at the dawn of a brand new year. While thanking the Lord for having protected us throughout the year that has just ended, we hope that this year 2024 will bring us even more success and much happiness. Optimism is our best ally at this moment when everything is starting again. We will be stronger, more skillful and more persistent this year for having learned from our misadventures. However, even if we are determined to start on the right foot, we simply cannot forget the terrible disaster that struck our beloved Haiti on January 12 of the year 2010. This violent earthquake, the worst natural disaster in the history of our nation, has tested us all in one way or another, and there will be significant challenges for many generations to come. Indeed, having suddenly taken the lives of several hundred thousand people, and caused material damage estimated at billions of dollars, this terrible earthquake which struck without warning, is, without a doubt, the worst tragedy of its kind of the entire history of our country. It goes without saying that our compatriots, who were already living in inadequate conditions, had no means of protecting themselves. The debacle was complete and, once again, our vulnerable nation was virtually left to its fate. If a comforting note emerged from this immense tragedy, it was that of human solidarity. There were magnanimous gestures. Several nations rushed to Haiti's aid. I will suffice to say that human greed and wickedness have, once again, prevailed over the magnanimity of the citizens of the planet. Haiti is still staggering. The disaster of January 12, 2010 still lives in our country. We see its depressing presence everywhere. The resilience of our nation is tested every day. Wherever you are, don't hesitate to make a gesture of solidarity to someone in need."
