Haiti - USA : An American accused of sexual abuse of children in Haiti
The American Michael Geilenfeld (71 years old), Founder in 1985 of the “Maison Saint-Joseph” orphanage in Port-au-Prince, arrested on January 20 in Denver, is accused of having sexually abused children in Haiti .

In court documents, federal prosecutors allege that Michael Geilenfeld traveled from Miami to Haiti from November 2006 to December 2010 to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

This is not the first time Geilenfeld has been accused of sexual abuse of minors. He faced similar allegations in Haiti, and Freeport Maine resident Paul Kendrick, a vocal advocate for sexual abuse victims following the Catholic priest abuse scandal in the 1990s, also accused Geilenfeld of abuse in 2015. He sent hundreds of emails to third parties with his accusations against Geilenfeld.

This prompted Geilenfeld to file a defamation suit against Kendrick, who eventually settled the case and agreed to pay $3 million to the Hearts with Haiti charity, which supported Geilenfeld's orphanage.

Geilenfeld is scheduled to appear this Thursday, January 25, in a Denver court for an initial hearing before being transferred to Miami. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
