Haiti - Politic : Haiti's intervention at the UN Security Council 26/01/2024 07:25:53 The question of security, the intense activity of armed gangs in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince and in Artibonite, the ongoing steps towards the conclusion of a broad political agreement, the problem of human rights, the The support of the international community for Haiti and the upcoming arrival of the multinational security force led by Kenya, are among other key points that were addressed by the heads of delegation present who agreed on the need for member states to United Nations to provide their full support to the Republic of Haiti which is going through extremely difficult times. Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting, Jean Victor Généus, the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs, recalled the urgent need to reach out to Haiti which is suffering more and more. "I just want the Council to be aware that every day that passes without this much-hoped-for support is one day too many that we live in gang hell,' he said before adding : "The Haitian people can't take it anymore. I hope that this time will really be the last before the deployment on the ground of a multinational force to support the Haitian security forces. The Haitian people have suffered enough from the barbarity of armed gangs." On the other hand, Chancellor Généus took advantage of this meeting to reiterate the firm desire of Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, to reach a consensual solution involving all political actors "With regard to the political dialogue to which the Prime Minister attaches particular importance, political actors are unfortunately still slow to find a minimum consensual agreement, in order to achieve a government of national unity. In this vein, I salute the work carried out to date by the eminent personalities of CARICOM and I continue, on behalf of the Haitian government and people, to request the support of the international community for this inter-Haitian dialogue." Généus did not fail to thank the international community "for the commitment and solidarity shown so far towards Haiti" and regarding the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) in Haiti he insisted "Faced with the urgency of the moment, he continues, the Government wants its effective and rapid deployment." Concluding "Haiti will not collapse because it is not alone. He cannot be alone in having been involved in all the fights for freedom in the world. Haiti remains open to all breaths, because it offered its solidarity when others also needed it. The friendly hands that are extended to us, concerned about our internal problems, we welcome with gratitude." Furthermore, the Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Álvarez, during his intervention, declared "Members of the Security Council, it is in your hands to put an end to the catastrophic situation that Haiti is experiencing, which continues to endanger Peace and security in the region. If the deployment of troops does not materialize as soon as possible, we will have to continue to regret the absence of positive results so awaited by the Haitian people. This crisis can no longer wait, let’s act now, without hesitation." Minister Alvarez deplored that far from the desired results to which Haitians aspire, the situation has become conducive to the emergence of new political forms which, presenting themselves as messiahs, carry out opportunistic and destabilizing actions as harmful as those of the gangs "These sectors have gone so far as to call for insurrection and civil disobedience, making the political dimension of the Haitian crisis even more acute.
