Haiti - Religion : Pope Francis calls for support from the international community for Haiti 29/01/2024 07:55:51
Sunday January 28, 2024, at the end of the Angelus prayer in Saint-Pierre Square, Pope Francis said he was relieved to learn of the release on January 24 of the six nuns kidnapped on January 19, 2024 in Port-au -Prince, the Haitian capital https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41473-haiti-flash-6-nuns-kidnapped.html with two other people (the driver and a young woman who accompanied them) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41518-haiti-news-zapping.html
"I learned with relief of the release of the nuns and other people kidnapped with them in Haiti last week” declared the Sovereign Pontiff.
Let's recall that after being informed of their kidnapping, during the Angelus prayer on January 21, the Pope launched an appeal for their release "I pray for social harmony in the country and I asks everyone to put an end to the violence which causes so much suffering to this dear population" https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-41490-icihaiti-vatican-pope-francis-calls-for-the-release-of-the-6-nuns.html
Following these releases, Pope Francis hopes that the many other people held hostage by gangs in Haiti can also be released "I call for the release of all those still kidnapped and for an end to all forms of violence; I call on everyone to offer their contribution to the peaceful development of the country, for which renewed support from the international community is necessary"
