Around ten journalists injured

The Association of Haitian Journalists (AJH) denounces the brutality towards journalists on duty. Nearly a dozen were injured (by bullets, beatings or tear gas grenades), including one seriously in an eye during demonstrations across the country, on Wednesday February 7 and Thursday February 8, 2024.

The "peaceful" demonstrations left 16 dead and 29 injured

In addition to endemic gang violence, in recent days there have been violent clashes between the police and demonstrators demanding the departure of Acting Head of Government, Ariel Henry. Between January 20 and February 7, 2024, at least 16 people were killed and 29 others injured, mainly in the context of clashes between demonstrators and the police, specifies the UN.

Identity of the BSAP agents killed in Laboule

Zéphyrin Daniel, Mackendy Veillard, Dorvil Jean Fontange, Chrisner Désir and Clersaint Thomas are the 5 agents of the Security Brigade for Protected Areas (BSAP) who were killed on Wednesday February 7 in Laboule 12, during anti-government demonstrations. J-C Moïse wants to disrupt PAP international airport

Jean Charles Moïse, leader of the radical opposition party "Pitit Dessalin", encourages the population to maintain demonstrations in the streets. He announced his intention to move the demonstrations near Toussaint Louverture international airport, an area he considers sensitive in reference to the responsibilities of the Government and the National Port Authority (APN) for security in this area.

Carnival : Embassies and Consulate Closures

The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to the Kingdom of Spain and the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago in the Dominican Republic inform the public in general and the Haitian community in particular that their doors will be closed Monday February 12 and Tuesday February 13, 2024 on the occasion of carnival festivities. Services will resume on Wednesday February 14, 2024.

The Consulate General of Haiti in Montreal advises that its premises will be closed on Tuesday February 13 and Wednesday February 14, 2024, for the carnival festivities. For the day of Monday February 12, 2024, the Consulate will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Consular services will resume on Thursday February 15, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
