Haiti - Education : 100 women received their diplomas of professional competence
As part of a vocational training project to the attention of vulnerable women of the metropolitan area, specifically displaced women, 100 women will receive this morning to 10am [time of Haiti] in the head office of Apex, their diplomas of professional competence in sewing manual, industrial and business creation. The culmination of six months of training, as part of a projectct initiated by the Minustah [for an amount of $USD125,000], the community concerned and various partners, including many Haitian businesses.

The objective of this training was to enable 100 women living in extremely precarious situations at Parc Jean-Marie Vincent, unable to support themselves and their family, to have in hand the tools to develop income-generating activities. They have, over the last six months, gained a solid professional training they now open to them the doors of the labor market.

In addition to this training, these women also received special training that allows them to become agents of prevention and of reduction of the violence in their community, by developing their social leadership and by actively participating in the activities and actions to strengthen the community services.

The courses have been given for 6 months, 5 days per week, Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm, with qualified teachers provided by the partner with whom the project was implemented, APEX. Literacy classes for 100 women for 6 months, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, in a proportion of one hour per day. Candidates for training, between 18 and 25, were selected with the support of members of the Management Committee of Parc Jean-Marie Vincent, and community leaders, in connection with the Minustah.

The Minustah wishes to salute these private partners, these companies, for the important contribution they make, for their involvement in this initiative to promote employment and professional capacity building of women, especially, of the most marginalized.
