Haiti - FLASH : More than 100 US army flights expected in the coming days in Port-au-Prince
Wednesday May 8, 2024, as part of the preparation for the deployment of the Multinational Mission to Support the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in its fight against armed gangs, two American military planes, transporting equipment and staff, landed at Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

Last week, several military flights landed in Port-au-Prince, at least 7 of which came from the Charleston air base, South Carolina.

In addition, American soldiers were deployed at the airport, responsible for ensuring the security of equipment and supplies intended for the construction of the International Mission's operating base near the International airport. The protection of the exterior perimeter of the airport is ensured by units of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H)

More than 100 other flights including C-17 / AC 130 planes from the American army and others rented by the State Department, are expected in Port-au-Prince in the coming days transporting equipment and contractors to build the base to accommodate members of the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS).

The Mission is expected to begin deploying troops by the end of May. The date and number of the first numbers remaining confidential so as not to give strategic information to the gangs...

It is estimated that the Mission will be made up of around 3,000 men (experienced police and military personnel trained for this mission) from several countries including Kenya (at least 1,000 men), Benin (between 1,500 and 2,000 men), Jamaica (200 men), from the Bahamas (150 men) according to letters sent to the UN but also from Barbados, Suriname, Chad and Bangladesh...
