Haiti - Economy : Relaunch of the tourism sector, a great opportunity for Haiti, but...
The report indicates that Haiti has natural resources, beaches and a climate comparable to the popular tourist destinations of the Caribbean in addition to a very rich culture very "singular", envied by other countries of tehe region. he UN agency believes that public institutions and the private sector must develop a tourism strategy, which takes into account the land use, the infrastructure, agricultural development, technology and training.
The report also highlights the necessity of building a brand image for Haiti, "which currently has the lowest figures in terms of tourism in the countries of the Caribbean where there are interesting opportunities" recalling that the countries of the Caribbean, received more than 20 million tourists (2% of world total), which generated $ 24 billion of revenue (2.5% of global revenues). 64% of tourist arrivals occur mostly in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas and Puerto Rico, countries, which despite the crisis, maintained their tourism growth in 2010.
