Haiti - Humanitarian : Responding to the emergencies of more than 6,300 displaced people from Pont Sondé
Friday, October 4th, 2024, on the instructions of Prime Minister Gary Conille, an important meeting was held with humanitarian, technical and financial partners co-chaired by Marie Françoise Suzan, Minister for Women's Affairs and Herwil Gaspard, Minister Delegate for Solidarity and Humanitarian Affairs.

This meeting was attended by representatives of UN WOMEN, the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This meeting aimed to set up a Working Group to respond to the emergencies of displaced persons in Saint-Marc (Dept. Artibonite), following the massacre perpetrated by the Savien gang on the night of October 2nd to 3rd, 2024, where more than 70 people were killed and dozens of houses burned https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43350-haiti-flash-pont-sonde-massacre-more-than-70-killed-and-dozens-injured-provisional-report.html

6,270 people (1,281 households), according to IOM data, fled their homes to take refuge in sites in Saint-Marc such as Place Philippe Guerrier, the Lycée National Antoinette Dessalines, the Lycée du Bicentenaire and the Lycée Sténio Vincent and in host families.

Faced with this situation, the Government has mobilized all its partners to come to their aid urgently, according to their areas of intervention. To this end, they have agreed to send a convoy to meet the needs in food (food kits), water, mattresses, blankets, flashlights, clothes and underwear, hygiene kits, medicines, etc.

In addition, appropriate medical personnel will be deployed to support the medical team on site. Mobile toilets will also be made available to the occupants of the various sites.
