Haiti - FLASH : Nearly 200 people massacred in Cité Soleil (Provisional report)
The toll of the massacre orchestrated between December 6 and 8, 2024 in the Wharf Jeremie sector of Cité Soleil, by the gang leader Micanor Altes alias "Wa Mikanò" and his men, mainly on elderly men and women, accused of having cast a deadly spell on his son by acts of witchcraft https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43805-haiti-flash-at-least-110-elderly-people-massacred-in-cite-soleil.html is revised upwards to provisionally stand at 184 people.

The Haitian NGO "Combite pour la Paix et le Développement" (CPD), which has several branches in the affected area, states in a press release that "The gang leader has decided to cruelly punish all the elderly and voodoo practitioners who, in his imagination, would be capable of sending a bad spell to his son [...] The gang's men were responsible for identifying the victims in their homes and taking them to the chief's stronghold to be executed," adding "the toll could still rise, as at least 80 people are still being held by the gang." Pierre Espérance, Executive Director of the National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH), agrees, "Testimonies from communities suggest that the real number of deaths is much higher, as mutilated bodies were burned in the streets. Several young people, including motorcycle taxi drivers, were also killed while trying to save residents [...]"
