Haiti - Constitutional revision : National consultations progress 27/01/2025 09:01:29
The Steering Committee of the National Conference informs that the constitutional review process, initiated by the Government, is continuing dynamically across the country. In 5 departments and 64 municipalities, the departmental meetings are mobilizing the vital forces of the Nation, with significant participation of women, young people and committed citizens. These consultations reflect a common desire to ensure a transparent and inclusive transition, up to the expectations of the Haitian people. This process, based on dialogue and citizen engagement, aims to build a new Constitution that embodies the values of social justice, solidarity and progress. These departmental meetings, organized throughout the country, must result in significant amendments to the Constitution. These reforms aim to correct the shortcomings that have often led to poorly structured and problematic electoral processes. In the North-East department, the constitutional review process is moving forward with determination and great enthusiasm, thanks to the active commitment of different sectors of society. An important milestone was reached on the first day of the departmental session of the National Conference, held in Fort Liberté. According to the Observatory of the Office of the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, responsible for electoral and constitutional matters, the majority of participants on the first day were women. This participation demonstrates the commitment of Haitian women to play a central role in this historic process. Young people also participated actively, contributing with great passion to the discussions. In the Artibonite department, the Steering Committee of the National Conference organized the first day of workshops in the city of Gonaïves. These workshops, which bring together members from various sectors from the 17 communes of the department, are part of a participatory approach around the necessary constitutional reforms. During this day, participants took part in thematic workshops on the legal bases and essential orientations for an ambitious and inclusive constitutional reform. The participation of women, young people and community leaders was remarkable. These actors actively contributed to the debates with reflections and proposals on several crucial themes.
