Haiti - Education : Workshop to consolidate skills in school engineering
On Friday, February 7, 2025, Professor Yves Roblin, Director General of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), held the closing ceremony of the 5-day training workshop, organized in Pétion-Ville for about twenty civil engineers from the School Engineering Department (Direction de Génie scolaire - DGS).

This workshop aimed to strengthen the skills and capacities of civil engineers from the DGS, responsible, among other things, for the supervision and evaluation of school buildings on behalf of the Ministry. After this training, they will be able to better develop and manage projects aimed at meeting educational infrastructure needs.

During this ceremony, Professor Yves Roblin recalled the mission of the School Engineering Department, as part of the implementation of the Ten-Year Education and Training Plan (PDEF, 2020-2030) in terms of rehabilitation, reconstruction and construction of educational infrastructure.

According to Roblin, the quality of education also takes into account the quality and safety of school buildings, an important determinant in increasing school supply, strongly encouraging participants to use the acquisitions made during this workshop in their professional activities.

Berthony Cadet, the Director of the DGS at the launch of this training workshop, urged participants to design school buildings, while having a sociological view centered on the student. Also, he invited them to make the most of this training, which is part of a strategy aimed at improving the execution, efficiency and sustainability of school infrastructure projects.

It is important to recall that at the opening of this workshop, Eric Voli Bi, the Resident Representative of UNESCO in Haiti, stressed to participants the importance of this training in terms of consolidating their skills "The observation shows that the Ministry has a lot of interventions to make in terms of construction and rehabilitation of school buildings across the country. In this sense, you are the linchpin of these interventions."
