![]() Haiti - Education : Launch of the National Learning Compensation Program 15/04/2025 09:49:50
This program, which aims to recover, accelerate, and consolidate academic achievement, is not limited to public school students but is also open to students in private schools. It provides educational support targeted at schools whose operations have been disrupted by insecurity in certain Departmental Directorates of Education. The Learning Compensation Program applies to all ninth-grade and Secondary IV students preparing to take official exams. It will last 12 weeks (200 hours of instruction in total), divided into nine weeks of recovery and three weeks of consolidation of academic achievement. Minister Antoine praised the courage of all young Haitians who have not only been attending school recently, but have also been staying there. "Given the chronic and ongoing socioeconomic difficulties and the problems of violence to which young people are exposed on a daily basis, a young person who stays in school today is someone who has a grandiose dream. Therefore, the State has an obligation to enable them to realize their dreams." Antoine explained to them that the remedial courses are part of a logical approach aimed at bringing them up to date with the Ministry's curricula. They are also part of a philosophy that aims to ensure that all candidates, taking into account school categories, socioeconomic backgrounds, and geographic location, have the same opportunity to pass state exams. Twenty-five centers, expected to accommodate tens of thousands of students from public and private schools, will soon be operational in this School Department. But, for this Saturday, April 12, 2025, about ten of these activities were launched in the metropolitan area. Miguel Fleurijean, Director of Secondary Education, explained the rationale for the Compensation for Learning Program, now in its third year. "The Ministry seeks to ensure, on the one hand, the establishment of academic achievement, and on the other, the preparation of students for official examinations and the continuation of their academic careers, either within the traditional education system, for those in the ninth grade, or at university, for those in the fourth grade." Aside from the center housed at the Lycée National de Pétion-ville, 10 other centers, welcoming students from several other public and private schools in the metropolitan area, began compensatory learning courses this Saturday, April 12. 1. Guatemala National School (Pétion-Ville); 2. Horatius Laventure High School (Delmas 75); 3. Daniel Fignolé High School (Delmas 31); 4. Georges and Antoine Izmery High School (Petite-Place Cazeau); 5. Jean-Marie Vincent High School (Carradeux); 6. Sister Theresa of Calcutta National School (Petite-Place Cazeau); 7. Carradeux National School; 8. Sibert National High School (Marin); 9. Duvivier National High School (Cité-Soleil); 10. Jacques 1er High School in Croix-des-Bouquets. Starting next weekend, classes will begin in other school districts in the West and in other departmental offices. HL/ HaitiLibre
