![]() Haiti - FLASH : 2,188 illegal Haitians arrested in Dominican hospitals in 1 month 02/06/2025 10:17:12
According to the DGM, these immigration control measures allowed the National Health Service to note a significant decrease in the flow of irregular immigrants at the end of May, "the obligation to present documents to regularize the presence of foreigners on the national territory being respected." The Directorate General indicated that this work is being carried out in coordination with the National Health Service (SNS) authorities and hospital staff, thus guaranteeing access to health services for all the needs of people present in the country, even those in an irregular situation. Current regulations stipulate that once patients are discharged from the hospital, primarily postpartum women, are transferred after verifying compliance with the 72-hour (three-day) observation period for natural births and the seven-day period for cesarean sections, as set out in the protocol. The DGM ensures that in all cases, appropriate humane treatment is provided and that in the event of the repatriation of women and minors, suitable transport vehicles are used for the several-hour journey to the border https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44794-haiti-flash-new-fleet-of-vehicles-in-the-dr-for-dignified-transport-of-deported-haitians.html , and that the necessary care and attention are provided. The DGM reiterated that it maintains a presence in the 33 hospitals designated as priority centers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44752-haiti-flash-migration-protocol-active-in-33-dominican-public-hospitals-list-first-expulsions.html and that it visits other centers at the request of hospital security personnel when it is necessary to send a unit to transport an irregular migrant, treated and discharged from the hospital, to a migrant reception center. Statistics : The DGM revealed that from April 21 to May 30, 2025, 2,188 irregular migrant workers were detained following the implementation of the protocol agreed between the National Health Service (SNS) and the DGM, as part of at least 642 interventions carried out in health centers nationwide. In Santo Domingo alone, 218 operations were carried out, while in the border provinces, 21 were carried out in Dajabón; 60 in Elías Piña; 24 in Independencia; 25 in Montecristi; and 33 in Pedernales, among others. During these operations, the agency reports that 353 men and 442 women were arrested, including 186 pregnant women, 559 women in labor, and minors (178 girls and 470 boys). Regarding the most vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women, women in labor, and minors, DGM agents act, in each operation, in accordance with the provisions of General Migration Law 285-04.
