Haiti - Social : Martelly commemorated with pride and honor the 208 years of the independence
This 1st January 2012, Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic commemorated with honor and pride in Gonaïves, the 208 years of the Independence of Haiti. On this occasion of honor to the fathers of the Fatherland, the Head of State, accompanied by the First Lady Sophia Martelly, attended the solemn Mass, followed by the Te Deum at the Cathedral. Were also present the Senior official of the State, representatives of diplomatic and consular corps, members of the legislative and judicial branches.

In his speech for the occasion, the President of the Republic recalled the wars fought by our ancestors for independence. He noted that these wars should continue today, but this time to improve the lives of the Haitian population. In this regard, the President stated that the Prime Minister had already presented a road map that he deems appropriate to the change advocated.

The President of the Republic recalled the efforts already made in the education sector. He particularly emphasized on this aspect of his vision in four E to make understand to the population that without adequate preparation it will not take advantage of jobs created in the country soon. The need to invest in agriculture to boost domestic production has held an important place also in the President's speech, which refers to agricultural credit banks that must be made ​​available to farmers. He also recounted the importance of a sector such as fishing, arguing the need to invest in this sector as well.

People are starting to regain hope, according to Mgr Yves Marie Péan, principal celebrant of the Mass, which congratulated the President Martelly for the infrastructure and urbanization works that progress well in the city of Independence. He promotes the perseverance in the effort.

For his part, the mayor of Gonaïves, Jean Wesner Amiziale, thanked the President of the Republic and took the opportunity to submit the claims of the inhabitants of Gonaïves to the Head of State.

The President of the Republic wants to create a favorable investment climate. All necessary steps will be taken to bring security throughout the country. In this perspective, the Head of State announced that the report on the return of the Army of Haiti was ready, the commission had recommended the formation of a new modern army for Haiti. "This report will be submitted to the competent authorities of the three powers for appropriate action," has informed the President Martelly.

Acclaimed by a huge crowd on the Place d'Armes, the President Martelly closed this Memorial Day with a distribution of gifts including dozens of motorcycles, as was the case in many cities where, in a spirit of solidarity and sharing, he has made happy on the occasion of Christmas and the holiday season. In Gonaives, Jean Jacques Emmanuel Aristil, 28, is the winner of the Pick Up Double Cab brand JMC.

In addition to the traditional wishes for the New Year, the President Martelly promises to continue to take concrete action for the benefit of the Haitian people.
